Ole Buttermilk Sky

Here's a real corny oldie to sing while you visit SkyWatch sites and look at beautiful skies.

Ole buttermilk sky
Can't you see my little donkey and me

We're as happy as a Christmas tree
Headed for the one I love

Ole buttermilk sky
Don't fail me when I'm needin' you most
Hang a moon above her hitching post
Hitch me to the one I love.

~ lyrics by Hoagy Carmichael

Buttermilk sky above a glassy Rock River between Byron and Rockford

My neighbors to the west have white rail paddock fences. They stand out beautifully in front of the autumn colored maples.

Stunning shots...The 'Blood Moon' or 'Hunter's' moon, is Wed.Oct 27. I assume blood is associated with the hunting aspect.

Those are million dollar views you have Marnie. I love the color of those trees against the blue sky & the white fencing. :)

Beautiful photo's.

Beautiful Marnie. I really miss all the brilliant crimson and flame orange colors I was used to seeing growing up on the East Coast. Here in the west, we have a lot of yellow and just a smattering of other colors (or so it seems to me).

These photos are beautiful, Marnie--I agree with whoever said they would look great framed and hanging on your wall. I always wondered what a "buttermilk sky" looked like:) I don't think I ever paid any attention to the rest of the lyrics--that first stanza is pretty strange, isn't it?

Arija said...

Yup.. those sure befit that old tune, but you dindn't hang up that moon, what happened?

Hi Marne,
Thanks for visiting my site. I love your butterfly photos on the side of your blog. The cloud ones are breathtaking! Here I am, new at blogging, and I am learning from you about Skywatch. Oh, one could spend lots of time at the computer if they aren't already!

I work as a para in special education. I have a student who does not talk, who I read and look at books on the weather and seasons with. I made her a matching game from pics my DH and I took of clouds last year.

Absolutely beautiful photos of breathtaking scenery, Marnie. I've just spent an interesting half hour reading your posts and enjoying your excellent photography.
Your friends did a wonderful job with their fall decorations.
Our beautiful weather has come to an end I'm afraid. It was wet and cold today and frost is expected tomorrow night. It was wonderful while it lasted.

Hi, Marnie--Catching up, as usual. I'm in Arizona right now, falling in love with the big sky. Your photographs were fabulous--and I also love the growing sidebar of your bird photos. The catbird photo could win an award--you should give lessons!
