Morning is the best of all times in the garden. The sun is not yet hot. Sweet vapors rise from the earth. Night dew clings to the soil and makes plants glisten. Birds call to one another. Bees are already at work.
- William Longgood

Dawn in my garden.

Much too hot to work outside in the heat of the day but the hours between 5 and 9 am are perfect in the garden. Hope we can all remain relatively comfortable thru this heat wave.

I love that vintage-cottage birdhouse. I am starting a small collection of those and now that it is getting bigger, more and more are ending up in my yard. I hope the birds enjoy yours. And I hope you keep cool!

Wow, Marnie that first picture is BEAUTIFUL! I like first thing in the morning too and sometimes I go out in my jammies and pull weeds in the backyard! We are just starting our heat wave today (they say) but I have well water so we should be fine! Stay cool over there!

Marnie,

Your garden looks so peaceful and soft in the early morning light.

I've had to take Charm outside at 5:00 am a few times this week and it is so lovely in the garden at that time of day.

Do stay cool-- it looks like this heat wave is everywhere.

You are so right! I am headed out right now to water, everything looks droopy and I just watered yesterday. This may be a two time a day job!

Hi Marnie....your early morning images are truly magical. The first one captivated me totally.

It is hot here....around 28C today. Rain has been in very short supply.....around two days rain in two months. The garden is extremely dry, it will be survival of the fittest.......

Beautiful photos, Marnie. I agree early morning is the best time in the garden; after that, the sun just makes me wilt.

Wow I love the morning light and the color of your plants in these photos! I have to trim back mums and asters today and I missed the early morning because I stupidly a Benadryl last night which makes me sleep hard. I always mean to sow some cleome and I tend to forget. Have it on my list now!

Wow your garden is aglow at dawn and I love how lush and colorful it is as well. :)

That dawn photo is gorgeous - reminds me of Thomas Kinkade, except, you know, good. Frame it!

I'm growing very tired of the heat. I really dislike this time of year, except early mornings of course!

Your garden takes my breath away. Hey, wait a minute, in this heat, I need every breath I have!

Seriously, how beautiful, and peaceful.

Your garden is still lovely. Mine has really been affected by the extreme heat and lack of rain. I would love to come and sit in yours. Carla

Hi Marnie, We are hot and humid here also---and even worse than that, we are extremely DRY. George and I got out really early this morning and watered our yard/plants/flowers, etc... Even at 6:30 it was Hot... Gads!!!!!

Your garden looks great --despite the heat. Love your lilies.

Your garden is so beautiful and peaceful! Hope you stay cool during the heat wave! We are having our first heat wave this week with temps in the high 80s and 90s. Not sure I'm ready!

How very pretty, Marnie.

Gorgeous first photo Marnie. Your garden looks magical in that early morning light. I usually don't see this time of day (I'm a night owl) but recently my daughter started getting up at 5:00 AM, which has gotten me up and you are so right ~ it really is a fabulous time to be outdoors. So cool and quiet. If only I didn't need sleep, I'd get up every day (in the summer only) at this time!
Love that birdhouse too.
ps Sorry you were having issues leaving a comment on my blog today ~ I think today was the day they switched everyone over to their new format so maybe that caused it??
Stay cool ~ or come to Colorado! It's only supposed to be in the 60's here tomorrow.

Gorgeous dawn in your garden Marnie, but 5 am is way too early for me! I go out and water about 8 pm as the sun is going down, otherwise, I'm hibernating. High
90's here today, hot even for a summer lover like myself. Whew!

If only I were a morning person...but perhaps if I had a scene to greet me like that at dawn I would be! That first photo is particularly beautiful.

We have had some respite from the heat here in my part of the UK for the last few days although it is set to warm up again at the weekend, it is the humidity I find so difficult!

Try to stay cool Marnie and enjoy that beautiful garden :)

Ahh, lovely morning pic of the garden, Marnie! The scents of the flowers are certainly more powerful then. Did you try pollinating your gourd plant? When we went home for a short visit this past weekend, I looked at the zucchini plants and couldn't find any female flowers to dust with pollen! Weird!

Hi Marnie, You are SO right. After much ado about cooler than normal temps, we're in the throes of a heatwave which makes those early morning hours [and evening ones too] all the more precious. On the upside, I'll probably get more blog visiting done.

Love it !
Dawn is special...we woke up today.

The morning light in your garden is beautiful!
You remind me that I need to get up a little early and enjoy the quietness of the morning in the garden. I've gotten a little lazy with kids being out of school and not getting up as early as I normally do. Maybe tomorrow I will get up when the alarm clock goes :)

That first picture is marvelous. A great inspiration for us. It's hot and humid here too. We finally got some much, much needed rain, but I'm not sure if it's going to be enough to make a real difference. Of course the humidity is now even worse...
Thanks for sharing the lovely photos.

your garden is absolutely gorgeous. Thank you so much for your wonderful photos of the flowers, birds, and butterflies that make working in the garden so very worthwhile! (and thank you from me, because your garden gives me little slices of home, since my "garden" in AZ is nothing like this!!)
