"The sun was warm but the wind was chill. You know how it is with an April day. When the sun is out and the wind is still, You're one month on in the middle of May. But if you so much as dare to speak, a cloud come over the sunlit arch, And wind comes off a frozen peak, And you're two months back in the middle of March." - Robert Frost

A couple weeks ago we had some lovely spring weather but like the poem says, a cold wind blew in chilly days and freezing nights. Visiting the garden centers, I found lots of frost kill to the  annuals and even perennials and shrubs have freeze damage.

Now Staring

False Rue Anemone brightens up shady places.

Goldfinch colors get brighter and brighter.

Pretty species tulips with lily shaped blooms.

Lovely shade of pink.

Very double yellow tulip almost like a yellow peony.

Coming Soon

Blue Bells

Lots of furry Allegro poppies self seeded where they will.

Brand New

Over the years I've bought dozens of bleeding hearts only to loose them to extremely dry summers or maybe they didn't like the location I chose.  This year one plant emerged so I added two more.  I love the graceful arching stems and the pretty pink hearts.

Woodland phlox keeping the bleeding hearts company.  These were my Dad's favorite flowers so I always want to keep them in the garden.

I love the quote from Robert Frost, it sure describes our weather too. I put a plant out side the other day and I woke this morning to find it completely dead from the cold. Ugh! Your photos are beautiful, and makes me excited for our spring. We seem to be a couple of weeks behind you. Hope your days are warming up and getting sunnier!

You are quite a bit behind us but don't worry it is coming and fast too! What a shame on the freeze damage. That happened here too. I was in Walmart and a whole table of dahlias were killed. Not so much from freeze (I think) but from the plastic they used to cover the plants and then left on until 1100. That is what did it I think. A shame.

Frost's poem describes April so well. I think last year we had a freeze at the end of April with even a smattering of snow. This week looks beautiful, so maybe we'll escape any more cold and head into May unscathed. The woodland phlox is so pretty--I need to add some of this to my garden.

I always love the woodland type flowers and that phlox looks a lovely colour.

It is so true April can bring warmer days, but it always likes to fool us sometimes and we find that our coats need pulling around us still.

Not long to go and May will arrive, with more lovely flowers for us all to enjoy.

All the best Jan

Hi There, I have a Bleeding Heart which a friend gave me a couple of years ago. This is the first year it has bloomed. GORGEOUS....

I've never seen a 'double' tulip before... Gorgeous. Does look like a peony.

Your False Rue Anemone looks like our ground cover, Vinca Minor. Ours has blue flowers...

Thanks for sharing.
Hugs,
Betsy

The finches are so pretty! Our tulips are gone but our rhodies are blooming like crazy!

Sorry you're having trouble with our comments. We're not sure what to fix to make it better so if it persists, please let us know! Thanks!

I think old Rob was right. I'm afraid to mention how delightful it is outside for fear of calamitous weather on its way! Your garden is looking quite cheery though, and I'm glad you risked its well-being to show it to us:)

Beautiful...I too have thistle feeders, but mine are plastic with a tray as I got tired of all the seeds on the ground.. The goldfinch are so cheery. I love them.. Michelle
