The snow had begun in the gloaming, And busily all the night Had been heaping field and highway With a silence deep and white. James Lowell

Since my last post we have had our first snowfall of the year.  From green grass, blooming flowers and fifty degree temps to 10 inches of  blowing show and 14 degrees.  It's dark at 5:30 in the afternoon and dawn is just spreading its morning light at 6:30.

Snow wars.

The dogs love the snow.  Cold doesn't phase them.

I wasn't prepared and all my bird houses were still outside.

The garden is covered in a heavy, white blanket.

Wishing everyone a very happy Thanksgiving holiday.

Brrrrrrr…it looks like winter came too soon! I don't want to say anything but so far we haven't had snow.
Wishing you a very happy Thanksgiving.

What lovely snow scenes you have in your gardens! And your dogs look incredibly fierce in those action shots. We have a very small (but still fierce) 1/2 Jack Russell / 1/2 rat terrier who helps keep the deer away, but I'm mostly a cat person, so big dogs seem scary to me. I'm sure yours are quite affectionate though. Can the birds still use the bird houses after it snows? It seems like they might need it even more, unless they have all flown south -- I guess this shows how little I know about birds. Our fierce small dog mostly keeps them away.... Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving! -Beth

Goodness - that certainly is a lot of snow - but the dogs do seem to be enjoying it.

It is interesting to see the different birds in our countries, and many are so colourful. It is much harder for them in the colder months, it can be so helpful to put some good food out for them.

Happy Thanksgiving

All the best Jan

Loving the dogs playing ! I wake before husband and when he starts to move around I let our dogs into the bedroom. Well... You should hear the laughter as they both have to give him kissies. Love the sound that snow brings which is quite around here not to mention how peaceful and bright everything looks.

Oh my...we haven't had any real snow and this is late for us in western NY... That is a lot. I leave one of the bird houses up in case something needs to shelter in it from the cold.....Hope it melts and you can get done what you need to and I hope that you had a Happy Thanksgiving...Michelle
