More Rose Parade

Hybrid Tea Roses

Double Delight lives up to the name. Wonderful fragrance and incredible color. Instead of fading in sunlight like most roses, DD gets darker. This one is covered in rain drops from an afternoon shower.

Day Breaker, pink with yellow accents. Long lasting blooms both in a vase and on the bush. I've seen Day Breaker used as a hedge--breath taking.

Another Double Delight. Every bloom is different, they become more red as they are exposed to sunlight longer.

Heirloom, an oldie. Very, very fragrant and more lavender than the photo shows.

Mr. Lincoln, another oldie. One of the top reds, very fragrant.

Tiffany, another super fragrant rose. Large pink blooms with a golden heart. A prolific bloomer.

A Tiffany closeup.

Peace. Fragrant, beautiful.

An old photo of Peace bloom. The colors have faded to a cream and pale pink and yellow. Stunningly beautiful in every stage of bloom.

Another old photo. Chicago Peace--a perfect rose.

Coming soon, the shrub rose parade.

No wonder you call your blog 'Lilacs and Roses! Double Delight is truly a favorite of mine. As you said no 2 blooms are alike and they change with the sun. Always such fun to see what the next bud will bring. And who could have a rose garden without Mr. Lincoln? I had a 'Peace for a while and loved it-should replace it, and 'Chicago Peace' is wonderful. Thanks Marnie for letting me enjoy roses with the black spot, and Japanese Beetles!

Hi Beckie. DD ranks right up there in my top 10--maybe top 5. Chi Peace too, so pretty.

The beetles are here! I saw the first a week ago Monday. No more roses until late Sept;(

So now it will be on to daylillies and stuff the beetles won't eat. Thank goodness there are still a few things.

Hi Marnie,
Those Double Delights are exactly that! I really like the one you said turns progressively redder. Mr. Lincoln is also lovely, and quite appropriate for your location. :-)

My dad used to love the tea roses and I thought they were among the prettiest of those he planted!

Good morning IVG. I agree, it's hard not to love those two.

Hope you have a wonderful 4th of July!

You certainly do have a lot of roses, Marnie! I would love to see your whole garden; it must be spectacular this time of year.

Everyone loves that Double Delight don't they? I love the Peace. I now remember what type of David Austin I have, Falstaff. Do you know this one? I think all are nice but this one does well in harsh conditions for roses.

Hi Rose. I, sadly the cut off date for roses is July 1. That is the day the Japanese beetles arrive. No more roses til late fall.

Hi Tina. I have had very good success with Austin roses--don't have Falstaff. And they are all beautiful (and very similar).

Yes, I guess everyone does love Double Delight. Maybe because it photographs so well. The more muted colors don't have that eyecatching contrast in a photo.

Nancy, thank you for coming to visit. I enjoyed your photos so much. For me looking at others pictures is the best way to learn how to take photos myself.

I'll be back to your site soon to see what's new.

Thanks for the visit and comment. I might not have found your blog until well into winter without it.

I never got into Roses and I see I'm missing some great photo opportunities. But you got it covered and I'm happy to see yours.

Say hi and give your cats a nice rub for me :)

Hello WiseAcre. Thank you for stopping by to visit. I will tell my cats you said hi. I told them some time ago their photos were on the 'world wide web' for everyone in the world to see and admire. They were not impressed;)

What beautiful roses--I'm so sorry to hear that you can't control the beetles. Do you have purple martins where you are, and if you do, have you tried putting up a martin house? A former neighbor, a truly organic gardener, said the martins were the best way to control Japanese beetles. But onto happier subjects: I love your photographs, and it's nice to meet your dogs and cats. I look forward to seeing your daylilies.

I happened across your blog from another blog that I read. Beautiful rose pictures, thanks! I would love to see the whole bushes in the landscape too. I prefer the antique roses myself because of the easy care. If you are into old roses you should check out one of my favorite rose specialty stores, The Antique Rose Emporium. They have an online cataloge and roses that will work up north.

Marnie ~ Thanks so much for your recent visits and comments. I wandered over to investigate your blog and became lost in a world of lovely roses, great verse and wonderful animal photography. Hope you're enjoying the 4th! I'll be back... Deb (P.S. Fan of Gordon Lightfoot, as well!)

I love your Rose parade. You have such a range of colors & the photos are each stunning. I miss visiting the small Rose garden in Elgin by the police station (formerly city hall). They had all the classics, including a Mr. Lincoln. Your photo reminded me of that.

Good morning everyone.

Joy, I know what you mean. I love all animals, but cats are my first love. Thanks for looking at my roses and leaving a comment.

Hi Cosmo. I have a lot of barn swallows but no martins. That's interesting, I didn't know the martins helped control the Japanese Beetles. I will look into getting a house.

Hello Lallee. Thanks for stopping by to look at my site.

Welcome Adventures in Nature. I've often visited the Antique Rose Emporium site. I agree, they have a wonderful selection. I have several Old Garden Roses now. Need to move my Gallicas, they aren't too happy where I have them located. Thanks for stopping by.

Tara, thank you for visiting. Hope to see you soon.

Good morning Deb. You have so many interesting blogs. I haven't gotten thru them all yet but I plan to. Enjoyed the cat limerick 'They'll Find You'. Your dog's eye view blog is great too. Thanks for stopping to visit and leaving a comment.

Hi McGregor's Daughter. We have a nice rose garden here in Rockford too but this year it's mostly underwate (it's right on the Rock River). I have one more series of rose photos, then I'm out of roses until late in the fall or maybe next spring. Thanks so much for visiting. I'll see you soon.

Double Delight my all time favorite. You captured them just right! I miss my rose garden since we moved into the shady woods but I try to make the best of it.

Roses and Lilacs said...

Hi Tina. No, I've never heard of Blotanical. Is it something interesting for gardeners?
Marnie

Roses and Lilacs said...

Good morning Troutbirder. When I moved here I planted a lot of trees, conifers, and fruiting trees for the birds. Now as they mature, my garden space is shrinking. Shade areas are slowly replacing the once sunny lawn and gardens. I know what you mean, shade and roses don't mix.

It is a directory for garden blogs. Check it out. http://www.blotanical.com/php/login_ui.php

I don't often use it, but many bloggers do, and there is accessibility to alot of blogs if you want this. It is similar to Facebook I guess.

Tina, it sounds interesting. I love looking at blogs and getting ideas. I'll check it out...and thanks for the tip.
