Give us pleasure in the flowers to-day

A Prayer in Spring

Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers to-day;
And give us not to think so far away
As the uncertain harvest; keep us here
All simply in the springing of the year.

Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,
Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;
And make us happy in the happy bees,
The swarm dilating round the perfect trees.

And make us happy in the darting bird
That suddenly above the bees is heard,
The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill,
And off a blossom in mid air stands still.

For this is love and nothing else is love,
The which it is reserved for God above
To sanctify to what far ends He will,
But which it only needs that we fulfil.

...Robert Frost

Above Shirley Temple peony.

Left unknown silvery-blue clematis.

Below Goldfinch on a thistle sock.

Tiny splashes of sunlight flying about the garden.

They seem to prefer this sock to any other of the thistle feeders I've tried.

What a beautiful blog you've created! I can almost smell the flowers and hear the birds!

If I do decide to get a couple chickens, I'll stop by and ask for advice. Enjoyed you site.

I wonder if your Clematis isn't 'Ramona.' You should do a search on Clematis on the Web (University of Hull). They have great photos & descriptions of nearly every Clematis out there. Whatever it is, it sure is pretty.

McGregor's Daughter, I should do some research now while they are blooming.
I think they are all common varieties, got them at Home Depot or Lowes. Thanks for the suggestion on a research source Hull.

Connie, I enjoyed your site. I have a huge scope for home improvement (100 year old farmhouse) and I love sites where I can get ideas and see other people's successes.
