Ole buttermilk sky
Can't you see my little donkey and me
We're as happy as a Christmas tree
Headed for the one I love
Ole buttermilk sky
Don't fail me when I'm needin' you most
Hang a moon above her hitching post
Hitch me to the one I love.
Can't you see my little donkey and me
We're as happy as a Christmas tree
Headed for the one I love
Ole buttermilk sky
Don't fail me when I'm needin' you most
Hang a moon above her hitching post
Hitch me to the one I love.
~ lyrics by Hoagy Carmichael

Stunning shots...The 'Blood Moon' or 'Hunter's' moon, is Wed.Oct 27. I assume blood is associated with the hunting aspect.

Those are million dollar views you have Marnie. I love the color of those trees against the blue sky & the white fencing. :)
Beautiful photo's.
Take care
Beautiful Marnie. I really miss all the brilliant crimson and flame orange colors I was used to seeing growing up on the East Coast. Here in the west, we have a lot of yellow and just a smattering of other colors (or so it seems to me).
Stunning cloud cover, great capture. Thanks for sharing!
Cheers

Those are beautiful shots and I'm singing along . . .
Both of these photos would look fabulous enlarged and framed!

I've never heard that kind of sky called "buttermilk sky," but it makes sense. The last picture is calendar-worthy!
Your shots yell, SERENITY. Love them both.
Nice shots the first one is so interesting thanks for stopping by my place.
such beautiful shots! I never heard of a buttermilk sky ... but I love it. :)
The sky looks like choppy waters in the top photo.
The white fence in the lower photo makes for a nice border.
Lovely photos and a glitzy old song. Thanks.
Ray
These photos are beautiful, Marnie--I agree with whoever said they would look great framed and hanging on your wall. I always wondered what a "buttermilk sky" looked like:) I don't think I ever paid any attention to the rest of the lyrics--that first stanza is pretty strange, isn't it?
Yup.. those sure befit that old tune, but you dindn't hang up that moon, what happened?
Hi Marne,
Thanks for visiting my site. I love your butterfly photos on the side of your blog. The cloud ones are breathtaking! Here I am, new at blogging, and I am learning from you about Skywatch. Oh, one could spend lots of time at the computer if they aren't already!
I work as a para in special education. I have a student who does not talk, who I read and look at books on the weather and seasons with. I made her a matching game from pics my DH and I took of clouds last year.
Sue
These are some of my most favorite photos seen today. I love the buttermilk skies, the creativity in naming your post, and the charming song, too.
Your blog made me smile HUGE today :)
Happy Skywatching!
~Lisa
Marnie, what stunning photos! I love them both!! Thanks for sharing with us.
Absolutely beautiful photos of breathtaking scenery, Marnie. I've just spent an interesting half hour reading your posts and enjoying your excellent photography.
Your friends did a wonderful job with their fall decorations.
Our beautiful weather has come to an end I'm afraid. It was wet and cold today and frost is expected tomorrow night. It was wonderful while it lasted.
Hi, Marnie--Catching up, as usual. I'm in Arizona right now, falling in love with the big sky. Your photographs were fabulous--and I also love the growing sidebar of your bird photos. The catbird photo could win an award--you should give lessons!
Great shots! Very pretty scenery.
I have never even heard of sky watch. What a cool site and such beautiful flowers! I will have to check it out!
Such beautiful photos! So peaceful and serene!
Excellent description - "buttermilk sky"

The second looks like fences at the racetrack.
Both wonderfully colored.

Very interesting...I never noticed sky like that (1.st photo). Buttermilk...yes, why not. Now I remember that forever.
Oh, I love both of these! They would look good framed. I especially like the one with the white fence. I bet your neighbors have horses.
That's impressionism! Wonderful!
Thank you all for you comments. I wish everyone a wonderful weekend.
Marnie
Cute little song and I love your buttermilk skies! I've been calling them cottage cheese skies but I think buttermilk sounds much better.
Let me add my compliments. Marnie these photos are scrumptious! Buttermilk sky! There are a number of adjectives and all say the same thing...excellent really excellent!
Have a lovely weekend!
Gail
Your fall photos are beautiful! I had totally forgotten about Hoagy Carmichael and a buttermilk sky.
Your photos are just beautiful! Fun and clever, too, that you connected them to the old song! Happy SkyWatching! Greetings from northeast Iowa!
Hi Marnie, I think that top photo is one of the most beautiful cloud patterns I have ever seen! Incredible!
It REALLY does look like buttermilk. Such a nice thought, now whenever I see this kind of cloud formation I am going to think buttermilk. Is that a good thing?:)
What a beautiful blog you have here! I'm glad I found it.
Thanks for your visit and comment on mine.
I'm jealous of the great views you have!
Wonderful choice for SWF!
Oh my Marnie..these are just so beautiful....
Gorgeous sky watch photos!! I love your blog too :)
Beautiful photos! In some places that's called a "fish-scale sky," & it portends a sudden change in weather.
Beautiful photos.
Really a splendid Sky Watch! Great choice of photos!
Your sky is amazing. The first one is like the surface of the lake with tens of wavelets. Wonderful.
Happy skywatching:-)
That first picture looks like a painting. Just gorgeous.
