Welcoming friends with fall decorations

My friends did a wonderful job decorating their tiny cottage for the fall season.
An artist's eye for combining lots of color and texture into small spaces. This is the entrance. So cheerful and welcoming. Notice the little gourds tucked into the container add color and substance.

A couple pumpkins and some colorful kale transforms the window box into a celebration of autumn.

Only a postage stamp size yard but they make the most of it .

They sure do as it is beautiful! Especially the window box. I have never had much talent with decorating window boxes. Would they mind if I copy some of their ideas?

Love that windowbox!! What a great job.

Hi Tina, LOL I think they would be happy that people liked their ideas well enough to copy. Actually, I plan to copy the window box myself;)

I plan to visit them quite often to see what other good ideas I can steal.

Good morning Flydragon. Isn't it cute. I really admire people who come up with real cute decorations. Myself, I am hopeless. My original ideas never come out looking good.

Lovely decorations, Marnie. I've never been that creative about decorating, and I wouldn't have thought to add small pumpkins to a windowbox or gourds to a container. Hmmm, maybe I need to go buy some little pumpkins and gourds:)

That window box is to die for!

Marnie, You are so right, your friends have done a great job of decorating their cottage for a fall welcome. The window box is inspired....and inspiring us all. I borrow ideas from folks all the time! Thanks for sharing this cute cottage!

Hi Rose, me either. I think those with talent should give lessons to those of us without. It's only fair.

Hi BirdLady, I agree. Just a collection of things but they form a very pleasing picture.

Hi Gail. Me too, I get inspiration from all over. And really, even if we 'borrow' the ideas, no two will ever look the same.

What stunning decoration. I love it when I see people put so much care and love into their homes. It feels so wonderful to honor and celebrate the changing seasons. :)

You know how I love containers!! These are amazing. I love the variety, like the croton in the window box. Its coloring is perfect for the fall assemblege. They did a beautiful job. I bet they get lots of complimentary comments.

Now how gorgeous are those decorations ! .. makes me want window boxes so badly too.
Love all the different veg and plants together. They really do a great job especially for such a small place !

Hi BeadedTail, I invited them to check this site because I knew people would compliment her arrangements. She will be happy people like them.

Hi RainbowMom, I think some people just enjoy life so much it shows in little ways like this.

Hi Kathleen, I know you love containers.

I noticed she used a couple plants that would be considered house plants in our climate--like the crotons and the red dracaena.
I would never have thought of sticking kale here and there or gourds/pumpkins.

Beautiful displays of fall decor in your friend's cottage garden. I love the window boxes, very lush & pretty.

Definitely a welcome entry to your lovely home! I've always wanted window boxes, but since our house faces south...and, it's a daily chore to keep any planters moist, I've not gone there. I love seeing the beautiful displays from talented folks like you! Cameron

Oh, I SO wish that I had a talent for making such artistic arrangements! I can recognize when someone else has put something fantastic together, I just can't seem to do it myself. (Kind of like how I can hear when someone else sings off key, but I can't hold a tune myself.) Your friends really did an outstanding job!

Oh my! How pretty! They did do a wonderful job. I haven't decorated for fall in a long time. I wish Mums weren't so short lived.

How beautiful. We just don't decorate our homes in quite the same way in England. I'm not sure why, but I think it's a shame and for a little effort it makes all the difference. I think I may take a leaf out of your friends book and hope to set a trend :)

Hi Marnie,
Your friends have done a slam bang lovely job with their decorating! I'd never have thought of putting Kale and Purple Fountain grass in a window box (I tend to think they want a lot more room) and the pumpkins were a great addition!

We're just starting to do our fall decorating here (Halloween and otherwise)so when we get it in shape you can see what we're up to, but I doubt we'll get such a great impact as your friends. Thanks for sharing such a great view!

Now I feel like I have to get out there and decorate.
Thanks for giving me ideas.

Good morning everyone, my friend Kathy is reading the post and wants to thank you for your compliments. She says she enjoys decorating especially with the wealth of colorful things so abundant in the fall.

Hi Perennial Gardener, I agree, the window box is great.

Hi Cameron, I can't take any credit but I agree. I have a lot of trouble with containers too. I expect they are much easier to keep watered in the cooler fall weather.

Hi DogGeek, I'm the same way. At least we can congratulate ourselves on our good taste;)

Jamie and Randy, I agree. Mums come in the loveliest colors. But the bloom doesn't last much longer than 10-days here.

Hi Kim, I suppose there must be differences in decorating styles. You might start a very interesting trend in your area;)
